Your edge Primary Camp Questions Answered
Find helpful answers to all your questions about our camps, including information on activities, safety protocols and how we ensure an enjoyable and enriching experience for all participants.
Our primary camps are predominantly for those in years 3-6 at school. This gives campers the opportunity to engage with people their own age, and in the same developmental stage as them, the same as they would in a school environment.
Most of our school holiday camps run for a total of four nights, though there are a couple of programs shorter or longer. Check out one of our specific camps to see their start and end dates.
We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without an amazing team of dedicated volunteers!
All CYC camps and events are predominantly staffed by an incredibly passionate and dedicated group of volunteers, who are excited about spending a week of camp with your young person or family. Our volunteers will lead a group of campers throughout the week, getting to know them well and acting as role models for the young people on camp. Our teams typically operate at a 1:4 ratio with campers, allowing for both effective supervision and the opportunity to build impactful relationships.
Volunteers all come from local church communities and apply directly to our CYC staff team, who will ensure that their application aligns with our mission and values. All our leaders provide multiple references, engage in relevant training including Child Safety and role-specific training prior to camp, and are supervised by one of our staff team members who will be onsite at all times.
Our camp programs look different depending on the camp and the location. From cool themes and tailored games, to site activities, like the flying fox or archery, there is something for everyone to enjoy at each camp.
Some kids love the chance to play board games during free time or hang out playing 9 Square. Each day also includes a session with time for Christian input. Mealtimes at camp are always a great place for conversation and wider connection.
The daily sessions on primary camp are designed to help kids understand and engage in faith content. The worship songs are fun and interactive, all kids love singing and dancing along. The camp speaker shares during the daily sessions about Jesus and what a relationship with Him looks like. The sessions are followed by time where the campers can talk with their cabin mates and leaders about what they have learnt and any questions they have.
Our camps run at a 1 volunteer to 4 campers ratio. This means that campers need to be able to regulate themselves and care for themselves, however have the support and supervision of a volunteer leader at all times. We often have campers on camp who have ADHD or Autism diagnosis, and they thrive in the fast paced and engaging environment with the support of our amazing volunteers. If you aren’t sure your child would suit the 1 to 4 ratio, we would love to chat to you and figure out whether camp could suit your young person.

featured camp roles
Camp leadership roles are vital for shaping safe, fun, and transformative experiences that guide campers’ growth and connection.
Holiday Camps Coordinator
The Holiday Camps Coordinator oversees all of the holiday camps that happen across all of our CYC sites. They support and oversee the Holiday Camp Directors as they ensure all camps run smoothly and safely.
Holiday Camps Director
The Holiday camp director is on our CYC staff team. Their role is to plan, prepare and run holiday camps at one of our sites. On camp, the Holiday Camp Director will be the main point of contact for parents and guardians during camp if they want to check in with their camper.
Cabin Coordinator
On camp, the cabin coordinators are responsible for making sure campers and leaders are cared for and supported. If your young person needs some extra support or is having any concerns on camp, they can chat to the cabin coordinator at any time during camp. They will get introduced to this leader at the beginning of camp.
Cabin Leader
Cabin leaders are the front line volunteers who ensure all campers have a great time and feel cared for and appreciated. Each cabin of between 4-8 young people will typically have 1-2 cabin leaders who are not only incredible role models but guide our campers through camps.reviews of primary holiday Camps
